Off-White X Nike Zoom Fly Mercurial Flyknit.
It’s a mouthful but the newest sneaker from the collaborative brands is also a visual wonderland. Inspired by the Mercurial on-pitch soccer boot and perfectly scheduled to released the very day the World Cup is set to “kick off”, the newest silhouette is making waves. Virgil Abloh (Off-White founder) placed two meticulously placed dots on the sneaker to represent a player’s optimal strike zones.
“That’s what the collection started with, these running shoes that mimic the same as your actual boot on the pitch, so that you started subconsciously training all the time. Then I just applied that aesthetic from the bottom up.”
A flyknit upper, bold OFF WHITE markings on the midsole and medial side, intricate lace detailing and plenty of lightweight cushioning to “boot”. Y’all see what I’m doing there right? Two colour versions are available and each pair comes with a matching gym sack bag with similar brand markings.
Okay now specs and obvious observations aside, what do I think of the shoe? I really like. Nike will always be the twinkle in my eye when it comes to sneakers but they nailed this effort with simple but unique design. I love a tall midsole, I will always give a thumbs up to a flyknit body and the Off-White details are creative yet subtle. They’re practically weightless when worn so they are functional as they are “fly”. Yo, I hope I’m getting points for those. My favourite detail of the sneaker has to be the yellow circle at the back with the etching “Engineered to the exact specifications of championship athletes.” Bad-ass.
Dropping June 14, go cop them and lace up your World Cup fever.
